Welcome to Restaurante Rio Minho

R. do Ouvidor, 10 - Centro, Rio de Janeiro - RJ, 20010-150, Brazil

General Info

Tucked away in the heart of Rio’s historic center, Restaurante Rio Minho on R. do Ouvidor offers a seafood dining experience that feels both authentic and refreshingly unpretentious. The location itself adds to the charm-surrounded by classic architecture and the steady rhythm of downtown life, it’s the kind of place you stumble upon once and then keep coming back to.

From the moment you step inside, the casual atmosphere sets the tone. It’s relaxed but still polished enough to feel like a proper sit-down meal. The wheelchair accessible entrance makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the space, and the table service is attentive without being overbearing. Whether you're dropping in for a laid-back lunch or a longer dinner with friends, the flow feels natural.

The menu is where things really shine. Seafood is clearly the focus, and it shows in both variety and execution. One of the standout dishes is the Sopa Leão Veloso, rich and deeply flavored, with layers of seafood that come together beautifully. If you’re in the mood for something hearty, the Moqueca de Camarão Com Pirão delivers a comforting, traditional experience-warm, aromatic, and satisfying.

Another highlight is the Polvo Com Arroz de Brócolis. The octopus is cooked just right-tender with a slight crisp-and pairs perfectly with the subtle freshness of the broccoli rice. For something more shareable, the Bolinhos de Bacalhau are a must. They arrive golden and crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, making them a favorite across many reviews. The Polvo Frito is equally memorable, offering a slightly different texture with bold seasoning that lingers pleasantly.

Drinks also play a role in rounding out the experience. With hard liquor available, it’s easy to complement your meal with something strong or refreshing. And if you’ve got room left, dessert options provide a sweet finish without feeling too heavy.

What stands out most about this restaurant isn’t just the food-it’s how everything comes together. The location, the menu, the easygoing vibe, and the consistent service all contribute to a dining experience that feels genuine. It’s the kind of spot that doesn’t try too hard, yet still leaves a lasting impression.

What customers say?

“ The food is very good!!! It's not too salty, you can go without fear and eat your fish and cod! Most dishes are for two. ”

- Sophia Hill -

“ Traditional restaurant located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, specializing in seafood, with a refined atmosphere and two floors. Highlights include the Leão Veloso soup, the best I've ever had, and the delicious cod fritters. Worth a visit and highly recommended. ”

- Claudio Oddone -

“ Simply the best Seafood Restaurant I have ever been ”

- Gabriel Tielas -

“ A restaurant with a tradition of seafood. I had wonderful cod fritters, shrimp risoles, and a seafood mix. Average/high price, the ambiance doesn't impress as much as the flavors. The service was kind and efficient. I recommend it! ”

- Leonardo Lemos -

“ A traditional restaurant located in downtown Rio de Janeiro, specializing in seafood. It has a refined atmosphere with two floors, and the waitresses provide polite, fast, and efficient service. A highlight is the chef's grilled seafood platter, featuring shrimp, octopus, squid, and grouper fillet, accompanied by broccoli rice and roasted potatoes. And I can't forget the delicious cod fritters as an appetizer, and the "Mineirão de Botas" dessert. It's worth a visit and a great experience; highly recommended. ”

- Fernando Magalhães -

“ I hadn't yet visited this classic restaurant and I had a mission: to try the famous Leão Veloso soup, created by the restaurant at the request of the owner himself. Upon arriving, I imagined the restaurant was closed: from the outside, it doesn't even look like it's open. Inside, it has an old-world atmosphere, very traditional to Rio. The food was wonderful. The cod fritters were perfect, with a perfectly crispy crust and a soft interior. The Leão Veloso soup needs no introduction. The seafood was all cooked to perfection, and the soup was very flavorful. The pastel de Belém (Portuguese custard tart) was also very good. Special mention goes to the restaurant's service, very fast and with everyone very polite. ”

- Mateus Terra -

“ I really enjoyed the executive meal; it's a great option for someone traveling alone because of the generous portion size. I suggest adding the octopus option to the executive meal! The portions were generous and very tasty! ”

- Carmela Grüne -

“ Excepcional! A piece of Rio’s past: food, service and the Portuguese cantina style that’s characteristic of Rio. Park outside the old Bolsa de Valores do Rio and seat inside. Good prices for the size of the portions. The fish was fresh and the “bolinho de bacalhau” very tasty. ”
